Berlin, January 22, 2020 – Art and fashion enthusiasts can look forward to a very special exhibition at Hotel de Rome, a Rocco Forte Hotel, starting 20 February 2020. On the first anniversary of legendary fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld’s death, Hotel de Rome will be showing 20 impressive portraits of the fashion icon in the grand lobby and foyer.

Captured in the moment under the dim street lights of the city, photographer and Berlin resident Daniel Biskup shot Karl Lagerfeld in expressive and atmospheric settings.

The extraordinary photoshoot took place in 2002 when Biskup and Lagerfeld prowled the city streets at night. The settings were unusual places and well-known locations. Thus, the Rosenthaler Platz subway station became a backdrop, and parking garages and telephone boxes were transformed into creative stages.

The special connection between Hotel de Rome and the fashion designer lay in more than just Lagerfeld’s general liking for beautiful hotels in interesting places. The Hotel de Rome was one of his favourite places to stay on his trips to Berlin for many years.  „J´aime son style très…cela m´évoque l´Allemagne des banquiers. Ouvert en 2006, l´ancien siège de la Dresdner Bank a été réinvesti avec un glamour total italien (“I like its style very much...it reminds me of the Germany of the bankers. This former Dresdner Bank headquarters opened in 2006 and has been reinvested with complete Italian glamour”), said Lagerfeld in 2012 in the French magazine L´Express Styles, in speaking of the unique combination of contemporary design and protected historical architecture represented by the hotel.

Lagerfeld and Hotel de Rome are also united by a passion for fashion, art and style. Since opening in 2006 the hotel has become a popular venue for exclusive and out-of-the-ordinary art exhibitions, and indeed has 650 of its own works throughout the building.

The “Karl Lagerfeld in Berlin” exhibition can be viewed from 20 February to 20 May 2020 in the Hotel de Rome. Admission is free.
