16/05/2019

Brown’s is renowned for its quintessentially British flair when it comes to design and art, and is proud to be the official hotel partner again for Mayfair Art Weekend 2019.

From 28th – 30th June, hotel guests can enjoy unrivalled behind-the-scenes VIP access to artistic treasures and in-the-know private talks arranged by Brown’s renowned concierge team.

To celebrate Mayfair Art Weekend, Brown’s signature Weekend Art Walks are set to return by popular demand.  Whether you’re enthused by Emin, wild for Warhol or devoted to Dali, Brown’s bespoke walking tours have been designed for aspiring artists and contemporary critiques alike.  Hosted by renowned curator, BBC Art Correspondent and gallery owner Maeve Doyle; guests on the walking tour will unearth Mayfair’s hidden gallery gems.

Taking place once a quarter on Saturdays, each Art Walk experience will begin in The English Tea Room at Brown’s where guests can enjoy a morning coffee with Maeve and admire the Hauser and Wirth artwork which adorn the tea room walls.  After an introduction, guests will depart Brown’s on an artistic walking journey, meeting directors of up to four different galleries who will offer a personal introduction to their current exhibitions.  Brown’s Art Walks are designed to help art lovers navigate their way through the hundreds of private shows that collectively make Mayfair one of the world’s greatest art hubs.

After exploring the final gallery, guests will return to Brown’s Hotel for an exquisite three-course lunch in Beck at Brown’s, Mayfair’s stylish Italian restaurant.  Each Art Walk will feature a special guest from the art world invited by Maeve to join guests, offering a rare opportunity to meet leading experts in the industry.

Brown’s Art Walk experience is open to both residents of Brown’s and non-residents.
The cost is £95 per person and includes:

Tea or coffee in The English Tea Room at Brown’s upon arrival (10.30am - 11am)

Renate Bertlmann, Artist

Bertlmann is an Austrian feminist avant-garde artist who is currently representing Austria at the Venice Biennale (11 May until 24 November 2019). Remarkably she is the first female artist to represent her native country with a solo exhibition. The installation on view at Brown's Hotel is an extension of her installation at the Austrian Pavilion, a triptych of three roses, each made of Murano glass, out of which protrude raze sharp blades. The installation displays an artistic, synthetic commentary that allows us to sensuously experience the dichotomy of our existence. The subversive treatment puts the principle of her artistic approach in a nutshell.
